2025 is the 200th anniversary year of the first commercial railway in the UK.
The Village Hall Committee, along with the members of the RSME, decided to hold a joint celebration event in September. The event consisted of an exhibition in the village hall about the train line that used to run through Gilling along with other items of railway memorabilia. The RSME ran train rides on the Saturday and on Sunday there was a cavalcade of engines running around the track at the same time. Starting with a model rocket engine to a more modern diesel train.
